Key Points
- This trial and previous trials have demonstrated that pre- followed by post emergence herbicide sequences give consistently good brome control in wheat & barley.
- Gardoprim 1.5 L/ha pre-emergence followed by Sencor 750 g/ha post emergence provided the best all-round outcome in terms of brome control, barley yield, and (as a bonus) broadleaf weed control.
- Autumn sown barley (cv. County) showed good tolerance to the herbicides in this trial, although growers should be aware that in the herbicide screening trial (FAR Arable Site) cv. Optic was considerably more sensitive to Gardoprim-Sencor sequences at similar rates (than adjacent wheat cultivars).
