Technology to optimise N management in maize systems
The goal of Paul Hunter's pathfinder farm is has been to understand how a variable rate fertiliser spreader can be used to put the right amount of nitrogen in the right place at side-dressing.
In year one, a fertiliser treatment comparison was carried out: the treatment area (full length of field 300m by fertiliser bout width) received three different fertiliser application treatments: a flat rate, variable rate based on deep N analysis and yield zone projections and a half rate. These results will be available later this year
Year two will see a repeat of this trial with an additional treatment.
