The FAR Postgraduate Scholarship
In our aim to encourage more students into the agricultural science and research arena, we have developed a scholarship which provides financial assistance with both course and day-to-day living fees. The scholarship valued at $7,000 is open to full-time students at Lincoln University whom are eligible to proceed to, or are undertaking postgraduate research, which will assist with increasing knowledge within the New Zealand arable farming sector.
Applications close on 15 March each year.
Full details including terms and conditions along with application forms can be sourced from Lincoln University and also in the Careers section of the FAR website.
Summer Studentships
In addition to the FAR Scholarship, exciting opportunities also exist for summer students wishing to get some hands-on experience out in the field. Summer Student opportunities are listed each year on the FAR website. 2009/2010 opportunites are now closed.
Women in Arable
Women in Arable (formerly Active in Arable) was formed in 2001 when a cluster of Canterbury women promoted a business orientated discussion group for rurally based women involved in arable farming. Following a brain storming session at the beginning of each year, ten monthly meetings are held which enable arable women to upskill in certain areas of their choice, assisting the group in becoming more involved in the day-to-day running of their business. Details of meetings are promoted on the Events section of the FAR website.
Arable Y's
A FAR initiative which aims to build confidence in, and create opportunities for the next generation of arable farming. For arable farming to remain a critical part of the New Zealand farming scene, the next generation of farmers needs to up-skill on information as early as possible and keep asking questions of researchers and agronomists; project Arable Y's aims to kick start the process. This project jointly funded by MAF Susainable Farming Fund (MAF SFF) and FAR is now in its second year.
